Baer, in December 1906, became the first transgender person to undergo sex reassignment surgery. 34 men were arrested and 12 brought to trial on sodomy charges 7 men received sentences ranging from 4 to 20 years in prison.
To achieve it Elisa had to adopt a male identity: Mario Sánchez, as listed on the marriage certificate.
